Dear Knight families, we understand that you have been receiving a lot of information regarding the COVID-19 from different sources. So to make it easier, we have consolidated a lot of the facts you need to know here.
The El Monte Union High School District is among many other school districts in the world to close its schools in an effort to help contain the COVID-19 (novel coronavirus). EMUHSD announced that it will keep its schools closed for the remainder of the school year.
Classes are continuing online through Google Classroom. Teachers and counselors have established office hours in which students may contact them via email.

State Assessments: have been suspended. Governor of California, Gavin Newsom, issued an executive order on March 18th, to waive this year’s statewide testing “for California’s more than 6 million students in K-12 schools.”

SAT/ACT: The SAT scheduled for May 2nd 2020 has been cancelled. The makeup exams for the March 14th SAT scheduled for March 28th have also been cancelled. College Board is working on providing students with future testing opportunities. The SAT and SAT subject tests scheduled for June 6th have not yet been cancelled.

AP Testing: is set to take place from home. Each course will take a 45 minute online free-response exam. The exam will revolve around the material covered in class by early March. Beginning on March 25th, students can attend free, live AP review courses through College Board.

The District announced that it will continue to provide free and reduced-price meals. No ID is required. Food is available for anyone under 18 years old. Families may pick up the meals at the following locations from 9am to noon, Monday-Friday (It is recommended that children be present to receive meal. If this is not possible, the district will limit the number of meals to no more than 3 ).

The district plans to have spring break as scheduled from April 13th-17th and according to their newsletter, “are hopeful to return the first week of May, if not sooner.” We will report any changes.
CIF announced that it decided “to cancel the Spring Sports Championships at the state and section levels.”

Class of 2020 Commencement
The district announced that graduating ceremonies have been postponed. A newsletter sent by the district explained, “With the continued health and safety of our community in mind, we are assessing best options and are putting together a senior student leader advisory committee to explore ways in which to celebrate our seniors, both virtually and in a public setting, if it is safe.”
