As we jump into this new spring season, Junior Vince Segovia continues working hard to pursue his goal of going to CIF once again. Along the way through his track journey he has progressively been getting better and better each practice.
Vince started track his sophomore year and was already one of the best jumpers they had. “Vince is an exceptional athlete he really could do anything he wanted to. He could be a distance runner, sprinter, hurdler, I mean he has the hops and the bounce and the springs, I mean he has it all it’s amazing. He is very athletic,” Distance Coach Bryon Hake said.
Not only is Vince one of Arroyo’s top jumpers, he is also one of the top sprinters. He contributes scoring points for the team by performing exceptionally well in the 4×1, 100m, long jump, and the triple jump. With the help of his coaches, Coach Lee and Coach Gorbal, “we are expecting him to make it to CIF and get a good score in his long jump,” Coach Bryon Hake said.
Due to the construction of the stadium, he is only able to practice jumps twice per week. With just two days of practice, he is still able to excel in the track meets. Vince is a very dedicated and hard-working athlete, he tries to do his best in every meet and always pays attention to his coaches and tries to learn from them.
Not only does he have their support but his significant other pushes him to do the best he can. “My girlfriend motivates me to keep going. She’s always there to support me and help me get better,” Vince said.
Although track is a more individual sport, he has great friendships within the team and amazing support,“I would recommend people to join track because it can make you stronger, keep you in shape and make you lots of new friends.
I really like my team. They are very competitive and hardworking,” Vince Segovia said.
