Krystal Henriquez, senior, is awarded Athlete of the Month for softball! Krystal is honored for her skill, dedication, and outstanding contributions to the softball team. With her performance on the field and leadership off it, Krystal has left a mark on her team here at Arroyo.
Coach Shynia Torrez, describes Krystal as a passionate, hardworking, and strong athlete.”Krystal shows love for the game,” Coach Torrez explained. “She’s a hardworking player who carries her team well as a captain.” Krystal’s impressive stats show her performance on the field with 76 hits and 22 doubles making her a 1st team all leaguer throughout high school. Krystal is a standout player as her main positions are first and third.
Krystal’s journey in softball began when she was four. Her dedication and love for the sport has only grown stronger over the years. “My family has always had my back and pushed me to keep going when it gets hard,” Krystal said. “They’ve always been there to support me through anything that I need.” Krystal’s main support comes from her family who have always been there to cheer her on when stepping up to the plate.
As captain of the Arroyo softball team for the past two years, Krystal explains her leadership role in a loving and enthusiastic way. “Being captain is like being an older sister for them,” Krystal remarked. “I contribute encouragement to the team and provide another leadership role for them.” While not only fitting in the big role as captain, Krystal maintains an encouraging and loving attitude among her teammates, comparing being captain to being an older sister.
Despite the challenges that come with the sport, Krystal remains grateful for the opportunities softball has given her. “Softball creates another family for you,” she explained. “I would recommend people to join softball because it creates a different environment, and personally it helped me grow as a person.” Softball has done more than the typical person would expect from Krystal, her love for the sport goes beyond.
Krystal shares some words of encouragement for her well-deserved recognition as Athlete of theMonths saying, “Always push through your struggles,” she advises. “You’ll always find the encouragement to become the best version of yourself.” With the struggles that come with the game, Krystal still keeps a positive attitude by pushing through! With mentors like her parents and aunt cheering her on, Krystal’s journey in softball is proof of her dedication, determination, and passion for the game. Krystal’s impact goes far beyond the field as she shows her teammates her support and leadership. “The team respects and shows great love for Krystal… She will leave big shoes to fill!” Coach Torrez exclaims.
