Arroyo High School’s long-awaited field reconstruction is finally happening this year, just in time for the 2024 graduation on June 5th. For the past years, graduates walked across the stage of the dusty grass-covered field, however this year’s ceremony will be held on the brand new remodeled field at B. L. Bergstrom Stadium.
For generations, Arroyo High School’s field has remained untouched. The reconstruction this year marks a significant change and sets the stage for future students at Arroyo. The incoming students for next year, along with the 2025 graduates, will be among the first students to experience the brand new field.
The main reconstructed parts of the field include a rubberized track and field, a new updated scoreboard and remodeled snack bars stands, revamped bleachers, and a grand stadium entrance.
Every Arroyo graduation is typically memorized with pictures and videos capturing families and their graduates on the grass at the end of the ceremony. However, this year’s graduation will see some changes upon having the new field. “The seniors will be entering the field from the south home side, but when everything is over the audience will be ushered onto Rally Square for pictures being that the goal is to not have anybody on the field except the graduates,” explains Mr. Brendan Buono, Director of Student Affairs.
Given how fragile the new turf and track are, the school strives to ensure it does not get damaged before the use of the next school year. Various precautions will be taken, including the ban of wearing high heels. Although, this may cause concerns to graduates who looked forward to walking the stage with their new heels, it will keep the field nice and sturdy for the future.
Despite this, graduates will surely enjoy their time especially with the new field and stadium remade. It will commemorate long-lasting memories for everyone to look back on for the rest of their lives!
