Mrs. Veronica Trigo has joined the Career Center as College and Career Coordinator, replacing Mr. George Reyes, who passed away in March.
She has been a guidance counselor, helping many students choose what is right for them. She has now moved to the Career Center, helping students with things for college or their careers.
Mrs. Trigo is still counseling, just differently.
“But I now do different type of counseling where as a guidance counselor you’re doing more with high school graduation, A through G compilations, and now my duties are little bit different, where it’s more assisting students to apply for college, financial aid, or CTE of they’re interested in CTE field, which is Career Technical Education” says Mrs. Trigo.
Mrs. Trigo has had a very tough journey from college to right now. She has gone through many ups and downs, but that never stopped her from pursuing her dream of being a counselor.
“I went back to school. So I had started at Rio Hondo College, which I love. Got lost in the system when I was in college for a while. Took me a while to finish my AA. I did vocational school, private, for-profit, which wasn’t a good idea. So that’s why I recommend against, you know, for students because you could get into a lot of debt, but I did that, and then I went to finish my AA, finished, and I transferred over to APU. Started the program, and then I dropped. I dropped and then said, ‘Okay, I’ll go back,’ and that was when I was working as a clerk already, so I was working my way up. Throughout the different offices, I have pretty much worked in most of the offices. Attendance, guidance, activities, instruction, OP, which is now known as CTE (Career Technical Education) classes, and it took me 10 years to go back to school! I realised that I really wanted to be a counselor, and I went back and pursued my journey,” said Mrs. Trigo.
Many take different paths, and through those experiences, we each learn something new. Mrs. Trigo, similarly, gives a piece of advice.
“Never give up on your dreams. Life might take you differently; you might need to take different roads, to get to achieve your goals, but never give up,” said Mrs. Trigo.
