Several new staff members have joined the Arroyo faculty this year, including a new librarian, new teachers, and a new counselor.
Ms. Loanne Cheng has been a librarian at other schools for many years and has now joined Arroyo.
Her passion for books comes from when she was really young, and getting excited when there were any book reports. She grew up liking books, having fun whenever she was able to read.
“I am into a lot of student engagement. I like to do activities monthly with the students, just provide activities. I like to collaborate with teachers, and I want to make it a welcoming and safe environment for all of our students,” Ms. Cheng said.
Mrs. Evelyn Saldana has been a counselor for many years now and has become Arroyo’s new guidance counselor. She has always been there for students, getting to know them, and hopes to do that at Arroyo as well.
“First off, I always take pride in knowing all of my students and their names. Coming from South El Monte High School and knowing, you know 300 of those students and all of their names, I feel really bad and defeated when I’m here and I don’t know all my students, because I have about 330 here, so one of my goals is to first get to know all my students, so that I could better service them and build that relationship so that is my number one goal. Getting to know their name, and getting to know them, and their families, so we build that relationship,” Mrs. Saldana said.
Mr. Aron Campbell is the new band director. This year is his 21st year as a full-time band director. Prior to Arroyo High School, he taught at Colton, Oceanside, Whittier, Jurupa Valley, and also Marino Valley High School.
“This has definitely been the strongest program I’ve stepped into since I started instructing,” Mr. Campbell said.
Mr.Cuong Luu has joined the science department. He has been a teacher for about 7 years, teaching physical science. This year, he is teaching chemistry and physical science.
“We have a very supportive science department, we keep each other informed, and we also show each other the ins and outs of navigating the campus,” Mr.Luu said. “The best part of my job is being able to help students who are inspired to do something in life, where there is a will, there is a way, and it’s actually amazing seeing all the students with a will.”
The new staff in Arroyo also includes Estefanny Villafeurtes, health teacher, Efrin Alcala, Elizabeth Bolanos, Juana Torrez, in the special education department, and Veronica Munoz and Alexys Ortiz, paraeducators.
