Arroyo welcomes new Drama teacher Mr. Ingram

Amanda Medina, Staff Writer

Where are you from?

I’m originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico.

What high school / college did you graduate from?

I went to Highland High School in Albuquerque. I then went to the University of New Mexico.

How do you like Arroyo so far?

So far  I like it here. There are a lot of supportive teachers and so far my impression of the students is that they are really respectful and considerate of each other. I think it is really important that they have a sense of community and they look out for one another. They seem like really good kids.

Why did you choose what you’re teaching?

I chose what I’m teaching because when I was in school, this was my passion and my community. Before I found theatre, I wasn’t the best of students, and drama was something that was fun and was really interesting to me. I became passionate about it, and it made me want to come to school. It was a place where I made friends and got to be creative. Everyone was accepted no matter what their differences were. I knew I was passionate about performance and creating entertainment. I think it’s the best thing to teach.

What are some of your hobbies?

I’ve been doing parkour for eight years. Parkour is where you run up buildings and jump over obstacles. You have probably seen videos on YouTube of people doing stunts. Before that, I was in to martial arts. I love going out and trying out different restaurants. You know, when I can afford it. I also like going to art museums , traveling, and camping. My biggest hobby is parkour which I do almost every weekend.

What kind of music do you enjoy listening to?

I guess you can classify rock but more newer stuff. I like things more easy going. Not that any students will remember bands like Jimmy Eats World or the Goo Goo Dolls or anything like that. Stuff that was on when I was in high school and college. Bands like Passion Pit or MGMT, that are a little more electronic but they’re still in the rock sphere.  I like those types of band. Things that are kinda mellow but every once in awhile I like to rock out to The Killers etc. but generally it’s more Death Cab for Cutie, more relaxed, calm stuff.

What was your  least favorite subject in school?

My least favorite subject in high school was history. Hands down history. I think that’s because I didn’t really get to understand its relevance, like I didn’t understand how it was important.

What is your best high school memory?

My best high school memory was when I was casted as Grimm, which is a character in The Elves and the Shoemaker. It is a children’s play, and I was the lead elf.

What would you be doing if you weren’t teaching?

If I wasn’t teaching I would be probably be a set designer. I would be designing how the stage of a play would look and how it’s going to be built.

What are you involved with outside of school?

Parkour Los Angeles is a group I’m supervising, and thats one of my main interest. Usually in the summer I’m helping, and working back stage, or performing. I haven’t performed in a while, and that is something I want to get in to.
