Joanne Quach, Editor-in-Chief

Where are you from?

I’m from Irvine, CA.

What college did you attend?

I went to USC for both my undergrad and grad school.

Why did you come to Arroyo?

I saw that this school district had some of the most friendly people here.

How long have you been teaching?

Previously, I was doing student teaching at a charter middle school in South LA, so this is my first year teaching full time.

What subject(s) do you teach?

I teach English right now, freshmen and sophomores.

Why did you choose to teach what you are teaching?

In high school, I loved the fact that everyone is finding out who they are. I think it’s so important to use literature and drama to be able to find out who you are. It allows you to be able to see things in other perspectives and learn more about the world and what it means to be a person.

What are some of your hobbies?

I like movies quite a bit. I’ve been to Comic-Con the last three years, so I’m a pretty big nerd. I like books, karaoke sometimes on the weekends, and board games, I’m a champ at Settlers of Catan.

What would you be doing if you were not teaching?

I would be reading, writing and directing.

How do you like Arroyo so far?

I love it! [Arroyo is] so friendly and it’s nice being at a high school where so many people have the drive to go forward to look at what’s next.
