As the cold weather approaches, so do our winter sports such as soccer! Winter sports begin as men and girls soccer kicks off the new 2023-2024 season!
Our Knights elaborate some more on how they are starting this new season with their goals, how they prepare for games, and much more!
“My love for soccer is what motivates me to play and do my best at the sport.” Emily Munoz, senior said.
Many players start their season off strong and proud to honor their love for the game as Emily said. Several players have continued playing, only advancing themselves further into the program.
“I’ve played soccer since I was 5-6 years old. I’ve played on a bunch of teams, I’ve taken knowledge from all the teams I’ve been a part of and I applied that with what I do for Arroyo.” Isabella Reyes, Senior Girls Varsity Captain said.
Many of our Knights apply their knowledge, challenges, and experience to their matches. The end goal is to do their best in the league and further themselves into the CIF playoffs. CIF playoffs are the main goal for both boys and girls soccer.
“Our goal is to be champions and we’re getting the team ready to play their absolute best to their
potential. My team has a lot of potential. The girls are assertive.” Jorge Ramirez, Girls Varsity Soccer Coach said.
So far, both boys and girls have accomplished wins in intense games. Despite the intense and hard games, our Knights still pull through, successfully winning once and for all. Guillermo Del Rio describes a game that was incredibly intense; although intense and leaving players off the edge, it was a memory commemorating the hard push-through of our Knights.
“My favorite moment so far was when we beat Alhambra High School because it was an intense game and we were able to pull through with a win. Also having fun with the team on the bus.” Guillermo Del Rio, Senior Mens Varsity Captain and Goalkeeper said.
Memories are created on and even off the field bonding together as a team! Girls varsity soccer also describes their wins this season advancing themselves every game.
“We had our win against Baldwin Park, Sierra Vista, we connected as a team, we took the good parts of that game and kept furthering that and we took the parts we didn’t like and we learned from them and took all what we learned into the league.” Isabella Reyes, Senior Varsity Girls Captain said.
Students continue to advance and learn from their mistakes. Starting this soccer season, many athletes show how they prepare themselves and their team for matches. It takes physical and mental motivation to keep players and teammates in check.
“I just start yelling and get them hyped up. Sometimes, depending on the day, they can just have no energy at all so it’s important to start yelling and getting excited for the game.” Guillermo Del Rio, Senior Men’s Varsity Captain and Goalkeeper said.
Motivation comes from teammates, coaches, family, students, and more.
“My teammates inspire me, we really motivate each other during practice, before games, and the friendships you make on and off the field. We hold each other accountable, a lot of the time and we really motivate each other to do our best.” Isabella Reyes, Senior Varsity Captain said.
Starting this season has inspired players to push themselves beyond their limits with the help of teammates, coaches, and family.
“I’ve been having memories every single day with my team, because we are like a family that goes through the thick and thins together, no matter what happens.” Albert Lopez, Varsity Senior.
