Mr.+Tan

Joanne Quach, Editor-in-Chief

Where are you from?

I was born in China, I came here in 2000.

What college did you attend?

I attended UCLA for my undergraduate and bachelors. For my teaching credential, I went to Cal Poly Pomona.

Why did you come to Arroyo?

I came to Arroyo because this was my high school. I graduated in 2009.

What were you doing before this position?

I was doing a lot of private tutoring. I was working at an institution where they have after school tutoring for highschool students. I was teaching supplementary classes in biology, math and a bit of vocabulary.

How long have you been teaching?

I started student teaching last year at South El Monte High School.

What subject(s) do you teach?

Currently I teach Physical Science and Biology.

Why did you choose teach what you are teaching?

I chose to teach [Physical Science and Biology] because they are familiar to me. My undergraduate degree is in Biology and I have a pretty good knowledge on Physical Science as well.

What are some of your hobbies?

I like watching scientific videos online, seeing people do cool experiments in their backyards. I visit museums, things that are historical and interactive. In my spare time I also like to play video-games.

What would you be doing if you were not teaching?

Honestly, I don’t know.

How do you like Arroyo so far?

I think the students are nice but they are not the best disciplined, I can see demerits. They are a promising bunch of students and I hope that by the end of the year, they walk out of this class with more knowledge than they started with.
