Life as a military child can be difficult, moving around from place to place and always being the new student. Being a military child takes a lot of bravery and courage.
Military children often face unique challenges, like frequent moves and being separated from parents during deployment.
April is the month of the military child, where military children from all over the world are recognized for their resilience and ability to adapt to new environments.
“I have moved 4 times, and I will be moving soon again,” says junior Alexis Huerta.
“I’ve learned to adapt easily and I’m very comfortable dealing with change, it’s all I’ve known.”
Moving every couple of years can be difficult for a lot of people, leaving behind your friends and family can be a huge change. But moving doesn’t have to always be a bad thing.
It gives you the chance to see new places and meet new people. “I’ve gotten the chance to meet new people and I’ve been able to travel to many different countries,” said Alexis.
There are a lot of sacrifices that go along with moving. “I am moving my last year of high school and I have had a lot of emotions dealing with this. I’m excited to meet new people but I’m sad I don’t get to graduate with my friends because I’m moving to Germany this summer,” said Alexis. Life as a military child can be a blessing but also a curse.
“My dad is someone I’ve looked up to because seeing him serve in the military has also encouraged me to serve some time in the future.”
