On November 5th, The College and Career Center had set up an event to help the Arroyo Knights seniors apply to CSU’s, Uc’s, Community college, Common App’s, CTE Programs, Military information, and also Financial Aid.
“This event all started last year from an email. It was from the Los Angeles country office of education, and then our wonderful Mrs.Phelps went to an avid conference throughout the country and they promoted it and gave us the steps to do it.” Stated by one of our counselors, Dr. Patricia Filimua.
In the El Monte City School District, Arroyo high school is the first school that has hosted this event! Our staff was truly proud to be able to help give the seniors guidance into their future paths.
“ My favorite part of the event was seeing all the seniors together in one place and all working towards a common goal. Every student is unique and has a different plan for what they want to do for their future. I just thought it was really powerful to have all the seniors together in one place and no matter what that next step was, to just see everyone take that next step forward.” Said Miss.Hannah Phelps, One of our teachers at Arroyo high school.
At the event, there were set up tables for each specific application which was very helpful to the seniors. There were many staff answering each and every question that they were given. There was also a table where you were able to write Thank you cards to someone you feel like made a difference in your life.
“The goal for this event was to expose all seniors. We had over half of our seniors who haven’t started an application so this was exposure more than anything and for them to start an application whether it was community college,our years, CTE programs and also financial aid.” Stated by Mrs.Veronica Trigo, Our college and career staff coordinator.
At the end of the event, they had provided the seniors with Al pastor tacos. For dessert they had many pastries, ice creams, and churros. The Rally square was decorated for all the seniors to sit down and enjoy their delicious lunch while also having a great time with music and raffles.
Overall, The event was a success and very helpful to each senior that attended.
