What inspired you to do Cross Country?

I remember in middle school I was always a runner. I mean, I was a soccer player but running was my thing. My eighth grade teacher pushed me to do a running sport, which I did.

What goals do you have for the season?

I want to be all league first team, top 3, or league champ. That’s what I’m aiming for.

How are you liking Cross Country this year?

Varsity runner Misael Bolanos, 11, paces himself as he works towards the finish line at the Cluster One Meet.

I’m a captain for my first time. Everybody looks up to me and asks me for help and I’m like “I got you; don’t worry.” I love it.

Do you have any pre-race rituals?

The day of the race, before we get there, I have the same sweater and sweats I wear before every race. I have my earphones on, just blasting it. I’m in the bus dancing to the music and getting pumped up for a good race.

What’s your favorite pre-race meal?

Last week I had In-N-Out. I don’t know if that’s good, but the week before I had Jamba Juice.

Do you have a favorite runner?

I don’t watch a lot of running, but I know there’s Steve Prefontaine to look up to.

How many pairs of running shoes do you go through in a year?

I get more high end shoes, so I keep them longer. I go through one solid pair a year.

What’s your fastest mile time?

It’s bad. I got a 4:49 on my mile. That’s my PR (Personal Record).

How do you celebrate after a win?

I’m dead tired and gasping for air. I don’t really celebrate.

Do you have any plans for Cross Country after high school?

I do want to run in college and see how far I can go and make new friends.
