Homecoming- Urban Nights and City Lights

The homecoming dance was held October 14th. The theme colors were red, gold, and black.

This year’s  homecoming theme was “Urban Nights and City Lights”. The colors that revolved around the theme were red, gold, and black. ASB made the final decision for the theme by deciding on one that was classy but fun.

ASB member, Alyssa Juarez, 12, described the process of planning as “tricky” but they wanted a theme they could play with and also loved the idea of expressing the cities for their unique personality.”

The court included seniors Destiny Guerrero, Alexa Islas, Kayla Stidger, Natalie Ruiz, Leslie Vargas, Martin Rivera, Joe Huerta, Philip Heng, Andrew Peterson, and Edson Chavez.

To kick off the spirit week, the court first participated in a blindfold game that required each player to get to a seat guided by their

partner. To win, a player needed to race towards a chair and be the first to sit down. Round one was girls versus girls, round two was boys versus boys. In the last round, the winner from the boys and girls competed against each other over the final chair.

 Stidger exclaimed her excitement, “ It was really fun working with  my partner Andrew because we were a great team.”

On day 2, court nominees played a game that required each player to guess a song picked by an ASB member. Whoever knew the song, ran up to the person with the mic first, and if they guessed the song correctly, won a point.

Throughout the game, Islas was often one of the first to guess the song instantly. Islas proudly stated, “I knew all the songs, so the game was easy for me.”

On day 3, the court played an intense game that required each pair of two teams to transport a ping pong from one partner to another. The ping pong was delivered from one spoon to another by each partner holding it with their mouth until reached to the bowl.

Peterson expressed, “ The games along with the spirit days were a fun way of getting people hyped up for the football games as well as the dance and it was a great way of bringing the student body together and promoting spirit throughout the school.”

On day 4, the  game played had all of the court have a balloon tied to their ankle and each court member had to try to pop their opponents balloon.  The last person standing with a balloon not popped wins.

On the final day of spirit week, the delicious game played was each team of girls and boys had to eat their donut the fastest. The donuts were tied to a string among the girls and boys and whoever ate the quickest, wins.

When the 2016 queen was crowned, Leslie Vargas was granted the honor of being the next student to wear the crown during the  halftime show. Martin Rivera was later announced the homecoming king at the dance.

Vargas gratefully said, “Having the title of homecoming queen for my senior year feels really special. It feels great that I am part of a tradition. I’m looking forward to coming back next year to pass down the crown.”

Rivera also wanted to thank everyone who voted for him. “ I am very grateful that I was crowned as king. I want to thank everybody who made this possible for me. It means a lot,” said Rivera.

The dance was later held on Friday, October 14 from 9pm to 11:30 pm.
