In society’s current day and age, many trends and crazes are constantly showing up. Games are no exception to this with Epic Games’ new game segment, Fortnite Battle Royale.

Despite how popular it may be, the game wasn’t always this popular. Fortnite was released on July 25, 2017. The original game mode that was presented with it’s release was a co-op sandbox survival mode that revolves around doing whatever it takes to survive waves of dead hordes. The game gained mild popularity, but for many it was nothing too extravagant. It wasn’t until the release of it’s other game mode, the battle royale feature, in September that the game really became something of a phenomenon.

“I wasn’t too into the game at first, but then it got really popular and my friends and I started playing it and I’m glad I did. It’s really fun and exciting,” said Timmy Nguyen, 10.

In Fortnite Battle Royale, the player is presented with a fast paced game mode filled with 99 other players. The players primary goal is to build, scavenge, and survive among the rest of the players to become the last one standing. The world they play in is vibrant with a cartoonish sort of design filled with bright colors.

With the release of its new battle royale mode, the number of players have skyrocketed. The game has gained attention across the country, being featured in different articles and videos. According to PCGAMESN, Fortnite Battle Royale has accumulated a concurrent number of 3.4 million players, surpassing the previous biggest battle royale game, PUBG, with a count of 3.2 million.

This game mode particularly continues to increase in popularity due to the constant updates the game receives from the developers. Seeing the rise in popularity the game has gained, the developers have been prioritizing this, constantly adding new concepts such as different outfits for the players character or a skins for the weapons they find in game.

Aside from the game rapidly improving, the game has also become popular because of how it functions. Compared to PUBG, another popular battle royale simulator, Fortnite doesn’t require a spending of thirty dollars or the most up to date computers. Fortnite is able to be played by anybody, and the fact that friends can join in and play makes the experience for players all the more better. The game has also moved onto mobile, allowing more people without a computer to join. And with the rise in celebrities playing it and streamers playing the game, more people are jumping in on the hype and experiencing the game as well.

It’s hard not hearing about this game everywhere. The game has become a big hit and does not seem to be dying down anytime soon. With all the hype surrounding Fortnite, it’s no surprise hearing it be the topic of most conversations.
